Rose Hips would be delighted to hear from dancers interested in joining us.
We are a self led, democratic group of fabulous, sassy women of all ages, shapes and sizes. All we ask is that members pitch in, contribute and have fun. We all do our bit in our own way, be it suggesting choreography or music, helping with admin and support or providing cake and giggles!
Most of our dances are not terribly difficult, but we do ask that, as a minimum, new joiners should be comfortable with middle eastern dance at improver level, which would probably mean having taken classes for a couple of years. (I have added some suggestions for classes for belly dance beginners at the end of this entry.)
We have regular practice sessions from 7.30 to 8.30 on Tuesday evenings at Wantage Civic Hall from September through to July. We all pay ‘subs’ to cover the cost of the room hire etc which generally works out at around £2 per week. We often have extra sessions with our lovely band, Greengage, to prepare for performances.
We currently have nine dances in our repertoire (which we regularly practise and are happy to teach) and aim to add two to three new numbers each year. Don’t worry; we won’t expect you to learn all of the dances in Year 1!
Our quirky, folky fusion style doesn’t suit everyone, so we suggest that if you’d like to know more you arrange to come along, give it a try for a couple of weeks and see how you get on.
